Employees of Jacksonville University were treated to a luncheon on Oct. 8 as they celebrated Employee Appreciation Day.  The Science Green was transformed into a venue for food, fun, and entertainment as employees flocked to enjoy the time dedicated to expressing gratitude.

Upon arrival, music from “The Little Mermaid” and “Finding Nemo” could be heard, putting people in festive moods. Each employee received a gift consisting of a green lunch bag and a cup along with a raffle ticket. Employees also looked forward to the giveaways, which included five $50 gift cards to the JU Bookstore, Jaguar giveaways, and a $100 cash award. Each employee who has spent up to five, ten, fifteen, twenty, or twenty-five years at Jacksonville University received an additional gift from the University as well.

“In order for an organization to be successful, employees need to feel appreciated and this event is a great forum to show employees they are appreciated,” said Devon Scheible, Director of Residential Life.

After each employee found a spot to eat, the ceremony began.  Kerry Romesburg Ph.D., President of Jacksonville University, gave a speech informing all the employees of his appreciation to each of them for their hard work and dedication to making Jacksonville University a very special place.

Romesburg emphasized this during the speech as he said, “What is special about Jacksonville University is the people. It’s the relationship among the students and faculty.”

Every employee seemed to enjoy the event. There were many smiles all around the Science Green. The weather was perfect for an outdoor luncheon with bright cloudless skies and a light breeze. It is no wonder why people at every table were in great moods.

“I only wish we could do this for our employees every week.” says Bryan F. Coker, Dean of Students.

At the end of the day Susan Bonfanti, administration assistant for student life and a member of the planning committee for the luncheon, reflects on the success of the luncheon,

“I thought it was great, the weather was perfect, the food was delicious, and it was great to see everyone enjoying themselves.”
