The Jacksonville University Women’s Lacrosse team ran into one of their biggest challenges of the season thus far when they faced off against 16th ranked Cornell University.

The Dolphins extended their home win streak to 12 with a 20-10 victory over the University of Louisville but were halted when Cornell came to D. B. Milne field. Cornell scored the first 6 goals of the match-up and never looked back. They increased their lead to 12-7 by halftime.

“Going into the second half we had a margin that we could had overcome if we executed some goals, but we would have had to secure the draw, control possession and we got outworked in terms of securing some of those possessions,” said Head Coach Mindy McCord.

JU did manage to strike, Eleven seconds into the second half, on a Jen Cosgrove goal that cut the lead to 12-8. The Dolphin offense was lead by Morgan Derner who had 6 goals on the day. Kayleigh Hines, Melissa Jaworski and Nikki Erdely also scored for JU in the 22-13 loss.

“Respectfully, we came up against a strong, well-coached opponent who executed its fundamentals,” McCord said.

The lady Dolphins, (6-2), embarks on a stretch of 4 straight conference road bouts before they host Howard University on April 20.
