After a season mixed with both victory and loss, JU men’s basketball team defeated Mercer in a three-game winning streak on Feb. 18. With this victory the Fins gained first place over the Bears in the Atlantic Sun conference schedule.

The men shot 50 percent from the floor and had a season best of 81 points, 19 of which were contributed by junior Russell Powell. This gave Powell a new career high in scoring. Other high scorers included Glenn Powell with 14 points, Aloys Cabell with 13 points and Tevin Galvin with 12 points. The team was on fire defensively with 8 rebounds by freshman Evin Graham, 15 forced turnovers and 7 blocks, 3 of which were by Galvin.

The Bears also had three players scoring in the doubles. Daniel Coursey led them in scoring with 16 points, followed by Jakob Gollon and Bud Thomas who both scored 10 points each.

The team then continued to move forward to achieve a 73-71 victory against Kennesaw State on Monday.

JU men’s hoops now only has one game left to complete the regular season; it boils down to a Feb. 24 season finale match against North Florida.
