Women’s Basketball drops two

Dolphins lose to Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky

The women’s basketball team went on the road last weekend, but ran out of gas as they fell to both Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky.

With the first of two starting on Thursday in Nashville, Tenn., the lady Dolphins dug themselves into an early hole making it hard to fight back in the second half losing 94-79, according to judolphins.com.

Even still, JU had five players in double digits led by guards Queen Alford and Sherranda Reddick with 20 points each.

“From the beginning of the game I knew it would be all about defense,” said Yolett McPhee-McCuin, head coach. “A team like Lipscomb is a dangerous team because they don’t have anything to lose. They came out and did what they were supposed to do. They hit big shots; they shot the best I’ve seen them shoot all year and what we had to do was defend them.”

JU would try to turn things up on the defensive end in their next matchup against the Norse allowing less points but ending in a loss nonetheless 69-61.

The Fins finished with four players in double-figures with Alford leading the way again with a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds, according to judolphins.com.

Just like the game before JU showed great effort in the second half of play but was still unable to push out a victory to end the weekend.

The Dolphins are 10-13 overall as they prepare for their next matchup at home against Florida Gulf Coast Thursday Feb. 20 at 5 p.m.
