JU Baseball Takes on Mount St. Mary’s

Baseball-CampusConnection (1 of 3)Jacksonville University baseball took on and beat Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday, Feb. 28. Jacksonville took the lead quickly, scoring one run in the bottom of the third. Dolphins players Franco Guardascione, Seth DeWitt, Angel Camacho and Dakota Julylia widened the gap in the bottom of the fourth inning, hitting a combined four doubles and gaining four runs.

The Dolphins expanded their lead in the fifth by doubling the amount of people sent home the previous inning, bringing the score to eight. The only other run scored by the Dolphins was in the sixth inning, where MSM also gained their first run. MSM went on to score a run in the seventh and eighth innings, with no runs scored in the ninth.

The final score was Jacksonville 14 and Mount St. Mary’s 3. The Dolphins also beat MSM in their two subsequent games, making them 3-0 against the team.

The victory was largely in part to pitcher Greg Shannahan. Shannahan had no runs scored over his five innings, with only five hits and one walk. In addition, he also had five strikeouts.

MSM also had many errors throughout the game, which did not help their cause. The Dolphins outscored MSM in their previous two games on Feb. 27 with scores of 15-7 and 13-2 respectively.

The Dolphins are 5-2 at home and 2-1 in away games, making their overall record 7-3. Jacksonville takes on Toledo this weekend, facing them for their final game on March 13.
