Babineaux leads Dolphins to victory

The Jacksonville University men’s basketball team defeated the University of South Carolina Upstate Spartans 81-77 on Feb. 18 in Swisher Gymnasium. JU lead at the half, but traded the lead with USC Upstate several times in the final minutes. The home victory brought the team to an overall record of 16-13 and 8-4 in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

This big conference win was not the only highlight of the night. Guard Kori Babineaux scored his 1,000 point, joining an elite group of athletes. He reached this career milestone on the same night he lead the team in points with 30. He also had eight rebounds and five assists on the night, most in each of those categories. He now has a total of 1,023 career points.

“Babineaux is the 30th Dolphin to score 1,000 points in his time at Jacksonville University, and the fifth Dolphin to do it in just two seasons,” according to JU Athletics. “The other four members of that exclusive club include Harold Fox, Ernie Fleming, Artis Gilmore, and Rex Morgan.”

The next opportunity to catch the men’s basketball team at home is against JU’s in city rival, UNF,  in the River City Rumble on Feb. 25. The game is sold out, but students can watch the game through ESPN3.
