The Jacksonville men’s soccer team fell Old Dominion 4-0 in a lopsided match that left the Dolphins scratching their heads.

The score didn’t accurately reflect the effort put forth by the Dolphins who had a 3-1 advantage on corner kicks and seven shots on goal at halftime. Even behind a strong first half, the Dolphins found themselves down 1-0 at the break and were unable to get anything going in the second half.

The second half was a strong battle but Jacksonville fell short of competing after allowing three additional goals, one of which was a penalty kick given up in the 59 minute.

This was the first game of the season the Dolphins could not register a goal.

“We weren’t good enough tonight and the score showed,” said Mauricio Ruiz , head coach. “We will brush this off. I’m looking forward to playing JU soccer again. Tonight we were someone else.”

The Dolphins return to action on Sept. 18 as they embark on a weekend-long road trip that includes stops at Campbell and UNC Greensboro.
