At the start of the Spring 2015 semester, the Riverview Café began offering new open hours to the Jacksonville University campus. Previously, the dining facility limited their open times to intervals of several hours throughout the day. Students, faculty, and staff can now enjoy the buffet-style eatery for most of the day. Official hours as posted on the Sodexo website are as follows: Monday – Thursday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. to  7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Student responses to the change have been mixed so far. Some students are critical of the new hours.

“There was a reason they were closed throughout the day: for prep,” said Ashley Williams, sophomore pre-med biology major. “There’s no point in keeping it open if it’s not organized.”

Many of the complaints centered around food quality.

“The food gets worse throughout the day,” said Pyper Morris, freshman kinesiology major.

Conversely, some opinions have been positive. The new hours are especially popular among athletes whose rigorous practice schedules force them to hurry to and from their meals.

“I think it’s better now,” said Hector Vega, senior international business major. “As an athlete, it’s nice not to have to rush here before it closes.”
