On Campus and Local Opportunities for Fitness

As the spring weather approaches and the thoughts of New Year’s Resolutions are fresh in the minds of many, one of the most common is living a more healthy lifestyle through exercise. However, fewer than 10 percent of people who make resolutions keep them, and those who do not usually have failed within the first week, according to a Dec. 2014 Time Magazine article. Below are campus and local opportunities to help keep the resolution of exercise on the calendar past January.

On Campus

Local

  • The Edge Rock Gym

Fifteen minutes from campus at 3563 Phillips Hwy. Suite 702, The Edge Rock Gym is Northeast Florida’s only full-scale indoor climbing facility. With more than 8,000 sq ft. of top rope, lead climbing, and bouldering areas, the gym is a friendly atmosphere for first-time climbers to experienced climbers.

    • $10 day pass, $4 shoe rental
  • Rebounderz Jacksonville

Thirty minutes from campus at 14985 Old St. Augustine Rd., Rebounderz is a 40,000 square-foot “extreme fun center” with a 12,000 square-feet of indoor trampoline jumping space, laser tag, archery, mini-bowling and arcade games.

  • Thursday College Night
    • Every Thursday, Rebounderz offers $10 unlimited jumping for college students with a valid ID.
  • Trampoline Fitness Classes
    • Every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:15 p.m., Rebounderz hosts a “Trampoline-based” boot camp. This “total body workout” claims to burn “1,000 calories an hour.” Classes are $10 with the option of purchasing a 10-class pass for $75.
