Sept. 3 Event Brings Mechanical Bull & Crowd

Daneisha Hawkins, senior biology major, rides the mechanical bull at the Sept. 3 River House Hoedown.

The River House hosted the first Jacksonville University Hoedown Sept. 3 at 6 p.m., the beginning of a series of events to take place at the River House Pub throughout the year.

Approximately 75 students arrived, with the highlights of the event including a live performance, a photo booth, line dancing, country music, and one rocking centerpiece that captivated the crowd, a mechanical bull.

Once the bull started to stir, student confidence fell into a downward spiral. For some students, the end of the ride was met with laughter, while others reacted with an overwhelming gratitude to have two feet back on the ground.

“We just really wanted a mechanical bull,” said Jamie Burket, director of recreation and operations in the Division of Student Life. “[So we] centered other activities around it like line dancing and the performer, [Kyle Tallman], who has a few country songs, and came up with a hoedown.”
