Orashen Helps Dolphins to Record and Victory

The women’s lacrosse team exploded for a 24-goal outburst en route to a 24-6 victory over Winthrop.
The Dolphins used two 10-goal runs, one in each half, on the way to matching a school record for goals scored.
JU (7-3) was led by Brittney Orashen who scored four goals on the afternoon. Orashen also added an assist, five draw controls, four ground balls and forced two turnovers. Taylor McCord added four goals of her own aiding the JU attack.
“Our ride has really been a team effort,” said JU assistant coach Paul McCord. “It starts with the attackers, then the middies are doing a great job disrupting the midfield and the defenders are reacting really well as a unit.”
Winthrop struck first in the game, winning the opening face off and surging down the field for the score.
Following the Winthrop goal, the Dolphins scored 10 straight goals which would be enough to hold on for the victory. JU continued the intensity and scoring threats into the second half, blowing past the Eagles.
The trio of Kaitlin Stewart, Holly Ventimiglia and Morgan Derner each added three goals in the victory.
Next up, the Dolphins open up conference Saturday at Kennesaw State.
