With emotions running high, as the day marked the last home game in the JU careers for Glenn and Russell Powell, the Dolphins were edged out by East Tennessee State 61-58 this past Saturday.
As it seems to do more often than many would like, the Dolphins game ran down to the wire.
Kordario Fleming led JU with a career high 18 points. Keith McDougald and Jarvis Haywood added 11 points each to help the Dolphins cause.
Early in the second half, JU used a 15-4 stretch to pull away from the Buccaneers but ETSU responded with a 12-3 run of their own. The second half alone featured seven ties and eight lead changes.
JU, who has won seven of their nine conference games by four points or fewer, looked poised to make a run at the lead but a McDougald three-pointer was blocked with under 30 seconds to play.
The Dolphins were plagued by turnovers all day long, giving the Bucs the ball 20 times.
“Anytime you turn the ball over that many times you are going to give the other team a chance,” head coach Cliff Warren said.
Up next, the Dolphins hit the road to wrap up the regular season at Lipscomb on Thursday and Northern Kentucky on Saturday.
After that, the Dolphins will head to Macon, GA. for the A-Sun tournament.
