Following their 10-day layoff, the Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse team hosted the Vanderbilt Commodores at D. B Milne field Sunday afternoon.

The Dophin’s offense hit its stride as JU defeated Vanderbilt 15-7, evening JU’s record at 1-1, leading up to a match-up with the Florida Gators this Thursday at 7 p.m.

Morgan Derner, junior, and Amanda Hurley, senior, each scored four goals in the game to lead the Dolphin attack. Holly Ventimiglia, sophomore, added three goals of her own while fellow sophomore Taylor McCord had two goals and two assists in the game.

Vanderbilt’s Carly Linthicum scored three minutes into the game, one of her five goals of the match.

Brittney Orashen tied the game at the 21 minute mark and the Dolphins didn’t look back after that. Karli Tobin made multiple crucial saves as the Dolphins scored 11 unanswered goals.

From then on out, any time Vanderbilt scored the Dolphins had an answer and cruised to the victory.
