The Jacksonville University men’s basketball team put together one of their better outings of the season this past Tuesday as they defeated Florida Christian 89-66.
The Dolphins (4-5) were led by Dylan Fritsch with 18 points in front of a raucous home crowd in the Swisher Gym. Jeremy Bogus had 12 points off the bench and Glenn Powell had 11 points, eight rebounds, four steals and two blocks giving the Dolphins the victory.
The Dolphin bench combined for 36 points while the team recorded 26 points off of 26 Florida Christian turnovers and 18 steals.
“We are happy to come away with the win,” JU head coach Cliff Warren said. “Our team has struggled early, but I am pleased with the way we started tonight. There is certainly more room for improvement and we will start that process for Friday’s match-up at South Carolina.”
The Dolphins compiled a 57-35 halftime lead, all but sealing the victory.
Juniors Keith McDougald and Javon Dawson each added 10 points of their own to the night. McDougald also added five assists and four steals aiding the Dolphin victory.
Early in the second half, JU extended their lead to 31, taking a 73-42 advantage over Florida Christian. The Sun’s made a few pushes of their own but could not cut deep enough into the Dolphin lead as JU remained up by 20 the entire second half.
The Dolphin’s next test takes them to Columbia, S.C. to take on the University of South Carolina Gamecocks Friday at 7 p.m.
