Some students know what they want to do the moment they enter school, others have no idea and still others change their mind about five or six times before finally deciding on what they will do with the rest of their lives.

For senior Brittani Wyskocil, she only had to change her mind once.

Wyskocil, who was recently announced as Jacksonville University’s Student of the Year, has danced and been involved in theater almost her entire life. As a theater major, dance and communications minor at JU, she made sure her hobbies followed her to college.

“My heart has always been with theater and dance since I was young,” Wyskocil said. “But as I’ve grown at JU, I’ve learned that I love so many other things as well.”

Wyskocil, born in Ohio but living in Tampa most her life, became involved at JU right away. She joined a sorority, was on the Panhellenic Council, participated in homecoming and has been part of Dolphin Productions.

“I think it’s safe to say that I’ve dabbled in almost every aspect of JU’s campus, including The Navigator, which I’m working on this semester,” she said.

Amongst working in Admissions as an ambassador and in University Advancement, Wyskocil also took on the role of orientation coordinator the summer between her sophomore and junior year.

“I never knew what I wanted to do with my future until that summer of being an orientation coordinator,” she said. “I realized that almost everything I do here at JU is somehow involved with Student Affairs. After working closely with Kristie Gover and Kaiti Chambers I knew I wanted a job just like theirs.”

Wyskocil said she went to both Gover and Chambers and asked them how they became what they are. After telling her what it took, she applied herself the best she could and started applying for graduate schools.

“I’m really happy with the choices I have in front of me right now,” she said. “I think the future will definitely be bright.”

It’s obvious that Wyskocil is a very involved student but she said she was both excited and awed when she heard the news of her winning the award.

Kayla Zucker, senior psychology major and sociology minor, nominated Wyskocil through their sorority, Alpha Epsilon Phi.

“Brittani has been one of my best friends since I came to JU,” Zucker said. “I’ve seen her do everything to make JU a happy and fun place on the student side of things. She has always worked hard in everything she has done. She definitely deserves this honor.”

Wyskocil will be honored along with Karen Jackson, Ph.D., at the Women’s Leadership Conference on March 7.

Congratulations Brittani! Although we missed each other by just a year, I am so glad to see people like you are enjoying JU as much as I did.
